In the beginning . . . .

If you've found this blog you at least must know that Punta del Este exists, which suggests you are up on the current hot spots as identified by top-drawer travel and lifestyle magazines. My own attachment to "Punta" is personal: almost 20 years ago I married a woman from Buenos Aires who spent the first 27 summers of her life -- summers, as in three months at a time -- in Punta del Este; and after retiring at the end of 2005 we have lived there more than half of each year. I've come to appreciate why my wife, all those years, would sum up her view of a beach resort somewhere in the world with a shrug and the statement, "It's nice, but it's not Punta del Este."

I hope to introduce you to Punta del Este and the surrounding area through this blog. I will try to provide lots of description of the area, historical background, guidance on places to stay and eat and things to do, news on what's happening and upcoming and what's changing and staying the same from one season to the next, useful links to additional information, and so on.

If there's anything specific related to this area that you've heard about and would like to know more about, speak up and I will try to oblige.
